Full paint of a sketch I did earlier this year. ->

Trying to strengthen the weapon design area of my portfolio. So this will be the first of many revisits to older work in the next few weeks.

Generally when designing fantasy weapons, I like to throw convention out the window. In this genre, form can take precedence over function. However, like my work in science fiction, I put a substantial amount of thought into how they would work in an ergonomic fashion as well. These always seem to yield the most believable designs.

I really enjoy the design! I know that it's a fantasy weapon, but if you were thinking about ergonomics, it would be really awkwardly weighted. The reason that the handle on a battleaxe is often at the very end is because there is no counterweight. You would be unable to swing with weapon without gutting yourself with the back end. Still, I love how it looks, and who ever said that fantasy weapons need physics?
