Rail Gun Rifle Final Render by ProlificPen Rail Gun Rifle Final Render by ProlificPen
An original weapon design, AH-ERW/9000s.

I made a few changes from the original rotation drawing. The mag has been shortened and a thin recoil suppressor has been added. A few changes were made to the scope and muzzle. The colors were inspired by the space shuttle, since this gun was meant for 0G operations.

Seems like people are always stumbling upon my work on the google these days :) Thanks for the kind words. I did this so long ago, it's starting to look bad to me now! But I think that feeling is normal as you improve.

Yeah, absolutely! I've not updated my dA account for maybe four years, possibly more- looking back when I was using Skechup to model, I cringe at the work I was doing. Now I've moved onto 3DS max and the work is much improved!

It is a really cool design though- the power supply on the top is a nice touch!

I'm basically putting my request out there onto the internet. Would you be interested in participating on an amateur (this i say because i don't have 20M$ backing me) video game project ? It involves time manipulation, and therefore different time settings, one of them the Cyberpunk setting. If you're even remotely interested in this idea please let me know. I love your work, it's exactly what my video game idea needs.

Ever seen District 9 or Mass Effect? I thought this might have been one of their concepts (until I read your description).
The magazine seems really far up the barrel, which would make it less accurate than if it were moved back or the barrel was lengthened.
Great job, though.

pahaha, no false. Those guns are at least 10x better than this old piece of crap. But hey, I drew this years ago, bet I could do a better one than the D9 team now.

Nice! I want one!!! But seriously - power is always going to be a headache. I believe that laser rifles would be old by the time they get rail rifles to work.

Personally I feel that any single person rail gun technology will never be practical. As the author said, the spontaneous energy usage is just impractical. It would be better to find a way to accelerate an object over a longer time, in a circular pipe for example, then simply release it at the time it is going fast enough and in the direction you choose. That wouldn't require a massive discharge.

sure anytime. How do you make it look so metallic?

I'm trying to draw weapons but am having trouble doing shading and making more well metallic and realistic.

Any help and I would appreciate it. ^^

I use a chalky looking brush for texture. Anything metallic works best with high contrast, just grab something metal that you'd like to paint and take a good look at how light bounces off of it. I have a bb gun in my desk drawer for reference.

Probably because of that orange color. I think the district 9 guns were orange too if I remember right.

Its the color design, but the line art and color layout is *very* similar to the style the weta concept artists used for the d9 concepts. Hence "its a good thing".

*and as far as rail guns go, currently they don't have the tech for the rails to be long withstanding either. They malfunction after only a few fires (sometimes 1), but yeah, the navy is doing heavy research into them as you said.

Ill tell you what, however, the color render gives it so much more depth compared to the first render, its alot more attractive.

Actually, i can see how everything works now in terms of the batteries and the like now

Not for one this small. The power needed is beyond our reach at the moment. Rail guns now should be easy in theory, but are still far from practical. Although I did just read something today about the US Navy mounting them on it's new battleships scheduled for deployment in 2020.

You're right about them not being developed enough for such a small design, but and again as you said their big brothers are being developed by US Army for their battleships and there actually was even an accident while testing a prototype of it.

the technology that goes into rail guns is easy

However the power needs are tremendous. The reason they would be installed on the ships is that they would need the entire below deck for the capacitors. The charge between shots would be huge. But the effect might be worth it as the sheer kinetic energy could take down a building. It's a fascinating concept, but it needs a good bit of work.
