I've decided to return to pop culture character redesigns for the time being. It's always a fun challenge to take an already, well-established pop culture icon, and try and improve upon it. I chose Robocop as the first digital painting of the year to coincide with the upcoming Hollywood reboot of the franchise. At first I was excited about the film, until I saw what he was going to look like ---> [link]
Which made me much less excited. I decided to dig around on various movie fan blogs and forums to see if I was alone in my criticism. Needless to say, I was not. In fact it's very hard to find anything positive about the new look at all! I think the fans deserve better. So I took it upon myself to try and create my own update of the classic. Whether or not you feel I have succeeded in improving it or not, thanks for checking it out, and I hope you enjoy anyway!
This image was created from scratch using Adobe Photoshop CS5, and an older wacom Intuos 3 graphics tablet. I used almost entirely the default hard round brush, the soft airbrush, and two or three custom texture brushes with varying levels of opacity and flow.
If anyone would like to order this image as a high quality glossy 18" by 24" poster, please email me at ydavros@gmail.com. I can send them anywhere in the world for $10 USD + shipping and handling.
"Robocop" is property of MGM. This image is property of Yanni Davros Concept Illustration, reposting welcome, but please credit and or link.
Anyway, I'm not against this particular artwork or anything, but I really prefer the old variant. Some classics should just stay that way... This one should just be named CrysisCop or somethin
