A fun little exercise I did to warm myself up this weekend before I tackle some of the more important art on my schedule later this week.
I rarely ever do fan art, as I am so full of my own ideas, but I was sort of inspired by some of the other deviants out there who had this idea waaay before me. If you don't know, this guy is from a japanese gameboy game from the 90's , but you've probably never heard of it. It involved catching little beasties in balls and fighting them with each other, and somehow they still listen to humans after all this abuse. Scyther, as my friends and I all agreed around the lunch table in 5th grade, was undoubtedly the best pocket monster of them all.
Used a little bit of reference of insects for some of the anatomy. Very very challenging to take a pokemon, which is surprisingly simple line art, and turn it into a more believable living creature. Try it out some time!
