Shadow Of Deimos by ProlificPen Shadow Of Deimos by ProlificPen
My original space ship concept, named "Shadow of Deimos".

I've always thought that if space travel ever does become popular in our future, at least the war ships such as this one would borrow elements from their naval roots. Thought about some of the look of old WWII Battleships while doing this. I've always been fascinated by the naval mystique especially surrounding the warships of that era.

Your ideas seem pretty close to mine.  I have always believed that warships in space would borrow from their naval counterparts having a long slender hull lined with guns.  Although I have always imagined them having engines in nacelles on the side of the ship with matching thrust nossles on the front and back of the nacelles so the ship can apply as much thrust to speed up as it can to slow down.  Plus if the nossles were thrust vectoring they could apply thrust to the right and left as well as up and down allowing it to make quick aggressive combat maneuvers.  Reaction control thrusters would be used for percision maneuvers like docking but don't have the thrust to compensate for the inerta created by the massive engines people love putting on the back of spaceships.

If you have this ship (or willing to have) for HW2, let me know.
Didn't read yet all posts below, but in my imagination here, some of those layered hulls are armoured and they "wake up" to fire their payloads and then recoil to its stealth position.

This is great. Do you maybe plan to do more? If you are still into space ship drawings, please contact me!

i can see that old WWII battleships and to me you did it off a bace idea from a japanese sword as if it could cut another ship in two at 1/4 of the speed needed.

If I allowed that, I would be doing you no service. Try and push yourself to be original. If it helps, the first thing I start with when designing ships is silhouette sketches. Do a bunch of them, then take the best elements from each and combine them until you arrive on an interesting unified design. Then bring out the details gradually keeping in mind the function and size of the vessel.
